Field Day is a collaborative pattern studio created by two artists and friends, Louise Fernando and Shelley Steer.

As a collective artistic force, here are a few offerings you can expect from Field Day.

Original artwork

Our bi-annual Field Day pattern collections and custom projects are created collaboratively by Louise and Shelley. We draw upon a combination of fresh inspiration and years of experience in the illustration and textile industry to create unique and joyful artwork.

Our artistic expertise has been sought by a variety of local and international clients around the world, including Vogue Living, Basil Bangs, Abercrombie and Fitch, The Plant Society, Anthropologie and Petite Friture.

We love to collaborate

We believe great things come from collaborating with other inspiring creatives and businesses who share our values and add joy to the world. We have collaborated with some amazing likeminded businesses which has taken our artwork to another dimension.

Visit our Collaborations page to see our latest collaborations and some behind the scenes documented on our Blog.

Through our pattern artwork and fabric collection, we seek to inspire hope and spread joy to all who choose to follow along.

Our Blog features a collection of happenings from collaborations to stories about those making or designing with Field Day artwork. Most recently, we were delighted to introduce our new wallpaper collection, Hidden Wildflowers

The artists behind Field Day

We are Louise Fernando and Shelley Steer, the two artists behind Field Day. Our friendship began in 2010 whilst working together in the fast fashion industry. Inspired to find more creative freedom, we both departed to work independently. Within months we were sharing a studio space and our first collaborative project was born—A Side Project, this kickstarted our own solo careers as freelance artists.

A little on Louise…

Louise has a Bachelor of Communication Design with 15 years of experience working in the design industry. She has worked with a variety of clients including Robert Gordon, Basil Bangs, Abercrombie & Fitch and Rebel Walls. Louise lives in the Dandenong Ranges with her young family amongst the beautiful lushness of tree ferns and large mountain ash eucalypts.

A little on Shelley…

Shelley has a Bachelor of Arts (Textile Design) and has worked for 15 years in the illustration and textile industry. She has worked with a variety of clients including, Vogue Living, National Gallery of Victoria, Anthropologie, The Plant Society and Petite Friture. Shelley shares a studio space in the beautiful Abbotsford Convent.

We had contemplated how to join our artistic talents and shared love of patterns, again and again, throughout our years working solo. We decided to bite the bullet in 2020, during one of the most challenging events in recent history—the Covid-19 pandemic. This forced multiple lengthy lockdowns in our city of Melbourne, which created the time we needed to plan all our dreams for Field Day.

We are very excited to share what we have planned for Field Day in the near future. Please shoot us an email by clicking the button below or subscribe in the footer below.
